This is Mrs. Anderson's 24th year in education and 12th year as the Director of Bands at Navo Middle School. Under her direction, the Navo Varsity group consistently receives sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. The beginner band received 1st division ratings at the Trinity Music Festival in 2019 - 2024 and the Beginners also received 1st division ratings at Sandy Lake during each of the years prior to 2019, including the outstanding beginner band during the 2017-2018 school year. In the 2017-2018 school year, Mrs. Anderson was named the Navo Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Anderson began her music studies in the fall of 1988 as a band student of Kathy Johnson and John Benzer at Griffin MS in The Colony, TX followed by Dick Clardy and Duane Minnick at The Colony High School. During her time at The Colony HS, she performed at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference. In the fall of 1995, Mrs. Anderson began attending the University of North Texas. She studied clarinet with Dr. James Gillespie and she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2000. While attending UNT, Mrs. Anderson actively taught private clarinet lessons in the DFW area. She was Drum Major for the Green Brigade Marching Band and was Vice President for the North Texas Student Music Educators. She also held the state Vice President position for the Collegiate Student Section of the Texas Music Educators Association. During her time at UNT, Mrs. Anderson was also a member of the Iota Theta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota where she held the Vice President of Ritual position with the music fraternity as well as earning the Denton SAI Alumnae Chapter Scholarship. After she graduated from UNT, Mrs. Anderson attended Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where she continued graduate work and had a teaching assistant position with the Athletic Bands.
In 2001, Mrs. Anderson moved back to Texas and started teaching band in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD at Bedford Junior High School. During her 7 years as the Assistant Band Director at Bedford JH, both Varsity and Non-Varsity bands received consistent sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest and the Beginner Band won Best in Class at Sandy Lake Music Festival each year. Bedford JH’s Varsity band was a finalist for the state BBB Honor Band competition. During her time in HEB, Mrs. Anderson was awarded the Distinguished Teacher Award/Award of Excellence given by the HEB Education Foundation. In 2008, Mrs. Anderson decided to move closer to home and took a position at a brand new school in Lewisville ISD. She was the music specialist at Independence Elementary School and during her time there, she received Teacher of the Year in 2011-2012 and was the Mentor Teacher for all new teachers to campus in 2012-2013. Mrs. Anderson is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association.
Mrs. Anderson’s husband, David, is also a graduate of The University of North Texas. He is a professional trumpet player and trumpet repair/restoration specialist. The Anderson family resides in Denton and they have three children, Gabriel (19), Emma (16), and Benjamin (4). They love spending time outdoors, camping in their pop-up camper, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers!
